On a Linux-Mandrake system you'll
find two different applications for
installing and removing software
packages: KPackage and
RpmDrake. They are both used for
maintaining software on a system, but
they each have their own specialty.
KPackage is best used for installing
and removing single packages, such as
software downloaded from the Internet.
RpmDrake's specialty is that it can be
used to easily install and remove
software packages that have been
"cataloged", such as the 8.0
Installation CDs. You're encouraged to
try them both.
This chapter is about KPackage. If
you'd like to follow along with this
lesson, the Ktail package can be
downloaded
from here (38k). Ktail is a
small application useful for viewing
log files. You may need to press the
shift key when clicking on the download
link.
